Advanced Technology

We are constantly striving to provide our patients with the finest dental care available. Our investment in advanced technology means a long-term investment in your future, because state-of-the-art technology invites informed decision-making and enables patients to make wise choices concerning their oral health. Dr. Sharkey offers the latest dental technology for your benefit:

Cerec 3: Through computer-aided design, Dr. Sharkey is able to restore teeth with ceramic restorations in one visit! Crowns, onlays, and veneers can all be done in a little over one hour. There is no need for messy impressions any more because he will scan your tooth with a laser to take a virtual digital impression. The tooth is then designed on a 3D imagining program and the tooth (or restoration) is then milled from a solid block of porcelain.

X-Rays: X-rays assist in the detection of cavities between the teeth that may not be visible in the mouth. Cavities that are just beginning can also be detected earlier in an X-ray so that your treatment becomes less invasive and costly. We use digital radiography now, which provides for fast and accurate diagnosis in detection of caries and other tooth problems. The exposure to harmful x-rays is diminished greatly.

Panorex: The Panorex film provides Dr. Sharkey with a panoramic view of the oral cavity and provides information at a glance about existing fillings, supporting bone, sources of infection, tumors, cysts, and decay. The Panorex film shows more of the mouth and surrounding structures, but with less detail of individual teeth, than small films.

Zoom: This is the latest technology for tooth whitening. In one single office visit, you will leave with an incredible smile.

Odyssey Diode Laser: This machine provides virtually bloodless laser treatments in certain dental procedures, avoiding the need for sutures.

Diagnodent Laser Caries Detector: With this device, Dr. Sharkey can determine whether or not stains on your teeth are an extension of dental decay or simply just stains. Basically, the diagnodent measures the fluorescence of the grooves in your teeth using a laser and assigns a numeric value to the site being examined. Because dental enamel has a low fluorescence value and decay has a high one, detection of cavities in the early stages is now available through the use of the diagnodent.

Computers: Our computer system is designed to efficiently manage the most complex information in the dental
industry. Our system handles treatment and payment options. We make sure our computer system takes care of the technicalities so that you are provided with the most up-to-date information available.

Implants: We have the ability to place various types of dental implants. We offer a variety of different implant systems and can perform multiple procedures on the same day. Dr. Sharkey will be happy to evaluate your dental needs and determine if you are a candidate for dental implants.

Local Anesthesia: This anesthesia is injected into the gum tissue at or near the area to be treated, producing a numbing effect that wears off after the procedure. Most dental patients find that the use of local anesthesia allows them to experience dental treatment comfortably.

Intraoral Photography: Dr. Sharkey has integrated an intraoral photography system into his practice which allows you the opportunity to view diagnosed problems immediately on a computer screen.
